Oliver Lafayette Moves On, Ryan Wittman Moves In

This has potentially been in the works for the past couple of days, but Oliver Lafayette will be leaving the team to replace Allen Iverson for Besiktas in Turkey. From what I hear, it truly is an offer he cannot refuse, and we are all happy for O. He has been an exemplary player and person for the Mad Ants, and I will certainly miss him.

To replace O, I signed Ryan Wittman yesterday. Ryan is the son of former IU great Randy Wittman, but Ryan more than made a name for himself with a great career at Cornell University. Last season, he led Cornell to their first ever NCAA Tourney win last season and even made it to the Sweet 16. He is a very good shooter with very deep range, and I hope he will help us better spread the court for Walker's penetration and for the bigs down low.

  1. 1 question why replace a big man with a guard the mad ants have more than enough guards. That was backwards do i need to come and assist the coaching staff and turn that organization around come on know.

  2. O. Layfayette is not a BIG MAN. Try to keep up!

    O. Layfayette was not shooting well and him moving on is a good thing. The team was also clicking in a better way before he got to the club this year as well. This is a GOOD THING!

  3. The second commented makes a good point -- Lafayette is not a big, he is a guard, and I replaced him with Wittman. Other than that, I wouldnlovebto have you come in and get this straightened out!

As for O leaving and clicking on the court, you may have a point. We will see in the next few points, but maybe he needed the ball in his hands more to make his full impact, and that wasn't going to happen with Walk running the point.

The reason I looked to bring in Ryan is because I think we needed a true shooter in here rather than a guy who needed the ball in his hands. Ryan can really stroke it (similar to Ryan Ayers), and I am hoping that will create better lanes for Walker as he penetrates and and for the bigs to work inside.

As for bigs, if you are looking for a Chris Hunter to come in, sorry, those types of guys are in the NBA. This team won a lot of games with these bigs, and I am not going to blame them. In fact, I think they have been a bright spot.

For those looking for more numbers in terms of bigs, I think we will see Chism back either for tomorrow's game or Saturday's game in Sioux Falls.

  4. This team can win without the bigs. THis team was playing well even before Hunter got out there. The problem has been shooting more than anything, and you just took care of that for the time being. Way to go!
