Great Win for the Mad Ants

It was a real barnburner on the sand volleyball courts here in Fort Wayne this evening. The Mad Ants front office was able to take a hard fought victory over the Tin Caps front office. It was an intense battle that saw a lot of lead changes, but, due to the leadership of Garrett Martz, the Mad Ants took home the victory.

As we get closer to the season, it is starting to get busier around the office. In fact, there was a Joey Meyer sighting the past few days! He is looking much healthier and moving much better due to ankle surgery, and I think he is itching to get started. He watched today as Walker Russell, Jr. and Rod Wilmont worked out with coach Steve Gansey. Those two guys are really working hard, and -- if hard work means anything -- I think our fans are going to be treated to their best years yet.

Obviously, it looks like we have Walker and Rod back in the fold, and they will provide us a very good and experienced backcourt. Add them to Anthony Kent (no sarcastic comments, Chuck and Anonymous!) and our spark plug playmaker Carlos English, and we are off to a nice start. Here is where it gets interesting. There are two players out there that I am really hoping come back to the Mad Ants -- Chris Hunter and Oliver Lafayette. Chris did not hook up with a NBA team after a more than respectable season with the Warriors, and it may be due to the fact that he is still battling some injuries. Please oh please come get healthy with the Ants!

Oliver was released from the Celtics not long ago, and I am sure he is weighing some attractive offers overseas. I hope he will return to us and continue this quest for the NBA. He is a NBA caliber player, and he has only been in the NBA mix for a short time. If he comes back, he will be one of the top players in the league and a sure call up candidate. If we can add those two to the mix we have, and we are a darn good team on paper.

So, that is the update for now. Let's hope we can get those guys to all jump on board for what looks to be our best season yet!
