Culver Workouts

The preseason workouts have hit the road to Culver, Indiana. Where is Culver? It is a tiny town on a beautiful lake in the middle of Indiana. It is probably best known for the Culver Military Academy (a private high school where the guys are training now), which has a campus that rivals most small colleges.

Why Culver? Because the guys have been in Fort Wayne for so long, I thought it would be a nice change of scenery. Also, our team owner, John Zeglis, lives here and he wanted to host them at his house and show them off to his town for a bit. Little known fact about Culver -- three owners of professional sports teams live (or lived) on Lake Maxincuckee in Culver -- Robert Irsay of the Colts, George Steinbrenner (a Culver grad and major donor) of the Yankees, and John Zeglis of the Mad Ants. Clearly, the most important franchise here is the Mad Ants. John sent a note to both Irsay and Steinbrenner saying that they should all exchange season tickets as owners of sports franchises. Shockingly, he got no takers!

We have a pretty big crew here today of guys who will be in camp -- Carlos English, Rod Wilmont, Walker Russell, Anthony Kent, and Billy Rush. Rush is the new name here, and we will have his rights via the new allocation rules, as he was recently cut from the Bucks roster and signed a D-League contract. They just started working out, so I really can't say how it is going, but he looks good.

The best part of this trip is that my mother in law, Carol Zeglis, gets to do what she does best -- cook! She is an amazing cook, and I guess they were able to enjoy it last night. So, there we are -- a chance for these guys to bond, get fed well, and get better.
